At the completion of the 2006 Annual Meeting, participants will be able to:
Understand the achievements, challenges and opportunities in Geriatrics;
Advocate for collaboration to promote clinical care for older persons;
Understand the state-of-the-art models in the delivery of care for older persons; such as in acute care Geriatrics, optimization of physical performance, and preventive health care;
Appreciate and understand the importance of quality improvement, safety promotion and error reduction in the care of older persons;
Demonstrate an understanding of common geriatric conditions: delirium, vascular cognitive impairment, drug related issues, herpes zoster and post herpetic neuralgia, neuropathic pain;
Recognize the professional and ethical issues in older persons while considering the influence of gender and ethnic-cultural background;
Review and discuss cutting-edge findings in aging research in a scholarly fashion, and to appropriately incorporate this acquired information into clinical practice; and
Communicate with colleagues and other health care providers regarding the care of older persons.
